About Gwen

Gwen grew up in St. Andrews and moved to Glasgow in 1999. Studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, she had lessons with Karen Vaughan (co-principal harp, LSO) and left in 2004 with a BA (hons) and PGDipMusic (Performance).

She is still living in Glasgow.

Weddings and Functions

Gwen spends many a weekend playing at weddings, functions and events. This work has taken her to many beautiful venues including Edinburgh Castle, the Balmoral Hotel and Gleneagles as well as Bonhams Auction House, One Devonshire Gardens, Cameron House and events such as the after-show party for Miss Saigon in Glasgow's Kings Theatre, attended by Sir Cameron Mackintosh. She can provide music on the pedal harp or clàrsach and is happy to accommodate requests and arrange music for your special occasion.

Teaching

Gwen has been teaching since she was at college and has had a great many pupils over the last seven years. She is currently in the post of clàrsach instructor at Sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu (Glasgow Gaelic School) as well as being the pedal harp teacher in the junior department of the RSAMD. She has previously taught at the Glasgow Academy, Hillpark Secondary, Loretto School and also spent the summer of 2005 as resident harpist and teacher at the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.

Publications

Mist Covered Mountains is a book of Gaelic music for beginners which was published in 2008 by Alaw and launched at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival that year. It has been very successful and has become a popular book, especially for adult learners.

It is available from most suppliers of harp music as well as the publishers.
